A Kid Like Me is a series of mini-plays focused on themes that worry, trouble and are relevant to young people. Through the plays, the True North Youth Theatre Ensemble explores what it means to be a kid and asks the audience: Are you a kid like me? The issues were selected by the members of the Senior Ensemble and included Social Anxiety, Over sexualisation of young girls, Bullying, Consumerism, Peer pressure, First World Problems, Social Justice, Pressure to Succeed and The Future.
We are only performing 4 shows before we head of to represent Australia at the World Festival for Children’s Theatre in Stratford Canada. Please come and support our show.
On the 28th of June True North Youth Theatre Ensemble Anglicare SA Scholarship Program presented its first project at the Shedley Theatre namely “Our Home”. “Our Home” was the first step for the Ensemble to use theatre making as a teaching tool. Under the direction of Alirio Zavarce, and with the help of the creative team, the ensemble wrote the text, developed images, ideas, movement pieces, sounds, they composed songs, created puppetry and made films. You saw them operate the show, sing, animate, play and tell their stories. They all worked really hard and the majority had never been in front of an audience before. To say that we are mega proud would be an understatement. “Our Home” was our starting project as it was important to start at the beginning. Starting a group from scratch, they didn’t know us and we didn’t know them. Yet we wanted them to collaborate, to play, share and create together.
True North Youth Theatre Ensemble Anglicare SA Scholarship program now embarks on its next project with a journey exploring the world of “Imagination”.
